No pain, no gain: what if pain becomes chronic?

No pain, no gain: what if pain becomes chronic?

The lecture will cover the normal mechanisms of pain transmission and explain how normal pain can transit/evolve into chronic pain. The focus of the talk will be pain mechanisms and the use of animal models in pain research.

Pain is a normal sensation transmitted through the nervous system, but what happens when the system overreacts and the pain becomes chronic? Why does this happen? How do we study it?

Animal models of chronic pain can help us understand the mechanisms and develop new drugs, but, how do we study chronic pain in non-verbal animals? And how can we relate the findings to humans? If you are interested in understanding more about why do we hurt and pain research, see you soon!

This lecture will be held in English.
