Webinar: Are fair algorithms a dream or a possible reality?

Webinar: Are fair algorithms a dream or a possible reality?

Algorithms play increasingly larger roles in our lives. They affect which movies we watch, who we become friends with, and how we find information online. They often make our lives easier, but they can have unwanted effects. Can we fix this with fair and unbiased algorithms?

Algorithms and other automated tools are starting to play a bigger part in our social, cultural, economic and political systems.

Recently there has been a lot of focus on making algorithms and AI systems fair. But is this even possible?

In this webinar Vedran Sekara, Associate Professor at IT University of Copenhagen, will dig into biased algorithms. From what bias actually means, and how it is defined, to why algorithms become biased, and how they become biased. We will discuss whether it is feasible to debias them to create ‘fair’ algorithms.

This talk will provide real-world examples, and involve the audience in defining what ethical algorithms might look and work like for them. We will compare this to definitions used by big tech companies and provide a future outlook for fair algorithms.
