Drought in Denmark: What’s Coming?
The droughts in 2018 and 2022 raised new questions about Denmark’s future climate. In this talk, we explore how droughts in Denmark may change in the coming decades, including how often they might occur and how severe they could become.
Droughts can have serious impacts on agriculture, nature and the economy. Worst of all, they can even lead to the cancellation of the “Sankt Hans bål” (bonfire)!
To understand changes in droughts, we look at rain, snow and other forms of precipitation, soil moisture, groundwater and more. We also examine whether extreme events like the 2018 drought could become more common in the future. After the presentation, you’ll know which kinds of droughts to worry about - and which ones you don’t need to worry about.
