How can the future of trade be sustainable?

How can the future of trade be sustainable?

What is wrong with international trade theory? And how can we revise trade so it represents a sustainable future? These are some of the questions I will explore in this lecture.

What do you think of when you think of free trade? Perhaps some of its benefits?

Contrary to popular belief, free trade is not always beneficial, as it is based on the comparative advantages of countries. Therefore, I will explore how we can rethink the international trading system to stop the climate crisis and avoid its health impacts on less developed countries - all while saving the most beneficial parts of the system.

In this lecture, you will learn about the best existing options to achieve these objectives and whether trade policy is the only way to achieve them. Through the four domains (labour, environment, climate and taxation), I will demonstrate how trade today is often explained by firms exploiting the regulatory differences across countries.
