The Power of Work Stories: How Challenges Can Make Us Stronger

The Power of Work Stories: How Challenges Can Make Us Stronger

Can the way teachers tell their work stories help them cope with stress? Some thrive despite challenges, while others struggle. This talk explores how stories of setbacks and growth shape resilience.

Teaching is one of the most stressful jobs, but some teachers thrive while others struggle. In this talk, I explore how teachers’ stories about key work experiences such as challenges, setbacks, or turning points relate to their resilience.

I focus on “redemption,” when difficult events are seen as leading to growth or positive outcomes. Teachers whose stories include redemption tend to cope better over time. Understanding these narrative patterns can shed light on how teachers interpret challenges and offer inspiration for supporting well-being and sustainable careers in education.
