What is "social media journalism"?
People of all ages in Denmark and beyond increasingly rely on social media platforms for retrieving and consuming news and information. This is changing how journalism is made and thought of, both by citizens and journalists. How does this affect the important role of journalism in a democratic society such as the one in Denmark?
This English-language presentation discusses various recent, relevant academic works on the relationship between social media, journalism and society.
It highlights how traditional journalism is caught in a Catch-22 between lagging behind or surrendering to platforms where they have no control, but also focuses on how citizens’ perceptions of what news is and who they trust increasingly change, for better and for worse.
